As we prepare to move to a new facility and expand our early childhood program in the fall of 2019, we are pleased to announce that Ms. Elizabeth Larson will join the early childhood team at Sioux Falls Lutheran School as our full-time 2-year-old teacher.

Ms. Larson graduated from Northern State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, a minor in early childhood education, and endorsements in kindergarten and middle school language arts, social science, and natural science. After college, she taught 1st and 2nd grade for the Midland School District before taking time off to raise her five children and run a day care. Ms. Larson has served at Sioux Falls Lutheran School since 2017 as an educational assistant, an after school care provider, and our summer program director.

Describe how you approach hands-on learning with 2-year-olds.
I believe children learn by doing and experiencing, so I really relate to Sioux Falls Lutheran School’s hands-on, play-based approach to learning.  Children in the 2-year-old class will use all their senses during class to explore the world God has given us.

Please share a little bit about how you plan to incorporate Jesus into the 2-year-old classroom.
Jesus is always with us and always around us. I will not only let the children know that he is there for us in times of sadness, but also that we can rejoice in times of happiness. God has given us everything we have.  He has placed people in our lives. Every week we will hear Bible stories and sing songs that tell about our awesome Lord.

What are you most looking forward to about working with the youngest learners at SFLS?
I have always loved working with young children. Watching them develop and learn on their own, with my guidance, brings me great joy! When a child is working on a new skill, I will be their cheerleader.
