High SCHOOL ACADEMICS

At Sioux Falls Lutheran High School, our mission is to develop capable, Christian servant-leaders in a complex world who are World Ready and Faith Secure. We are passionate about giving our students the tools they need to be successful academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. Maintaining high academic standards and programs designed to meet the needs of a variety of students, employing highly-skilled Christian teachers, offering unique service-learning experiences from which to develop leadership skills, and upholding a Christian worldview drawn from Scripture, all work together to fulfill our mission. Ultimately, we are committed to partnering with families and the church to raise lifelong learners who use their gifts and the fruits of the Spirit, in faith, to touch a troubled world with God’s grace.

ACADEMICS

In keeping with the high academic standards established for accredited schools in South Dakota, and led by highly-qualified Christian teachers, our high school students experience a rich and challenging liberal arts program that contains the full offerings of math, science, english/language arts, history, and theology. At the culmination of their high school career, SFLS students are well-prepared for college or career and service to the church and world.

A wide variety of in-person, on-campus classes are complimented by the opportunity to expand into the world of online learning through South Dakota Virtual School (SDVS) and Edgenuity. In addition, we partner with surrounding universities to offer dual credit courses. Advanced Placement (AP) preparatory classes are also available for students who plan to take AP tests during the spring semester.

COMPLEMENTARY CLASSES

In addition to core subjects, we incorporate art, music, physical education, financial literacy, Spanish, and a multitude of other electives, including dual credit courses, into our school day. Private music lessons are also available during the school day as a convenience for families who wish to enjoy uninterrupted family time in the evening.

TECHNOLOGY

Technology is incorporated into instruction through the use of Promethean Boards, Apple TVs and mobile devices. To best facilitate digital instruction, all high school students receive school-issued Chromebooks.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

As a member of the SD High School Activities Association, Sioux Falls Lutheran High School offers a variety of athletics and competes with other Class B schools in South Dakota. In addition, we compete locally and regionally in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa with similar size Christian schools.

Other extracurricular opportunities include a variety of music, theatre, math and STEM-based activities. A variety of camps are also available during the summer months.

COMMUNITY & LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Community and leadership opportunities are important components of a healthy, well-rounded high school experience. Every year, our high school students help serve the Thanksgiving meal for children and their families at His Ark Christian Child Development Center at Resurrection Lutheran Church. The student council also inspires all-school service activities to include food drives, hygiene drives, and other events that help support organizations in Sioux Falls and the surrounding area. Students strengthen leadership skills as they discover new ways to give back to the community and receive encouragement from teachers to go above and beyond the assigned responsibilities within each new learning environment.

What families are saying:

“As our kids have entered the middle and high school years, we’ve realized that the other Christian voices in their lives are getting more and more important. So just understanding all the great Christian people around here—the Christian role models and influencers—that would not just be allowed to speak into their lives, but encouraged each and every day to talk to them about their relationship with Jesus was too much for us to pass up.”
–Dave, SFLS Parent

“There are many reasons why I love going to Sioux Falls Lutheran. I would say the main point would be because we get a Christian education. It's great because it sets a good foundation for your morals and ethics, and when you go out into the world people are going to see that and that's going to define your character… I feel very confident with the teachers I have. They are leading us down a great path, and I can't wait to see where that takes me.”
–Emma, SFLS Class of 2023

“I trust that our kids are safe and cared for at SFLS. I know they are learning at a rapid rate in each school subject, and most importantly–they are learning about how to be a Christian.”
–Brian, SFLS Parent
