Rachel Bult to Join Growing Early Childhood Team at SFLS

As we prepare to move to a new facility and add additional sections of preschool to our program in the fall of 2019, we are pleased to announce that Mrs. Rachel Bult will join the preschool team at Sioux Falls Lutheran School as a 3-year-old teacher on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a 4-year-old teacher on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Mrs. Bult graduated from Concordia University, St. Paul, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in early childhood education and a Lutheran Teaching Diploma. She has eight years of experience as a head preschool teacher for ages 3-5, as well as experience working with infants. She and her family are members at Faith Lutheran Church, and her husband, Mr. Derek Bult, serves as the principal at Lutheran High School of Sioux Falls.

What first sparked your interest in education, and what made you decide to become a preschool teacher?
I struggled in school as a child. My father was diagnosed with cancer during my 4th grade year, and my teacher that year was a blessing in so many ways. Although I fell behind even more in school that year because of the craziness in our family, my teacher was fantastic in helping me find unique ways to improve my learning. It happened that she and her family were members of our church, and I spent evenings at her house learning outside of school, too. That's when I knew I wanted to be like her. Young children have always brought me Joy. I love the way they learn and explore their world.

Tell me a bit about your teaching style and how you incorporate Jesus into the classroom.
I am a firm believer in learning through play, hands on, messy fun, and process not product. We’ll have a Bible lesson every day, read Bible books, and talk about Jesus whenever and where ever we can.

What are you most looking forward to about joining the SFLS team?
I am very excited to work with some of the early childhood teachers I look up to. I student taught with Mrs. Tams in 2004, and I knew then that I wanted to be a part of this wonderful teaching team.
