Mrs. Temple grew up on a dairy farm in Nisland, South Dakota. She was homeschooled through high school and started her college career studying music at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD. After two years, she transferred to the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, where she graduated summa cum laude in 2016 with a degree in K-12 Music Education.

After graduation, Mrs. Temple taught as a substitute with the Sioux Falls School District and began volunteering with Harmony South Dakota, an after school music program in Sioux Falls. From 2017-2019 she taught 4th-6th grade orchestra at four Sioux Falls Catholic elementary schools. In 2019, she expanded her position with Harmony South Dakota, where she now teaches individual lessons, rehearsals, musicianship, and percussion four afternoons per week. In addition to her responsibilities at Harmony South Dakota and Sioux Falls Lutheran School, Mrs. Temple also has a private studio where she teaches violin and viola lessons.

Mrs. Temple lives in Sioux Falls with her husband, Max. In her free time she enjoys camping, hiking, trail running, biking, and generally spending time outside.

Check out the Q&A below to learn more about Mrs. Temple’s passion for music education.

What inspired you to become a music educator?
In high school I started teaching violin to a few students at my church, and I immediately fell in love with teaching and sharing music with students.

What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of my job is showing students how to play together and create music as an ensemble.

What do you most look forward to about joining the music team at Sioux Falls Lutheran School?
I’m so excited to be a part of the SFLS music team! I’ve met a few of the teachers before, and I’m looking forward to learning new things and playing music with these awesome people! It was so great to play with Mrs. Biteler for chapel during our first week of school, and I’m looking forward to sharing more music in the future.
