Meet Administrative Assistant Elizabeth Martinez

Sioux Falls Lutheran School is pleased to welcome Mrs. Elizabeth (Beth) Martinez to the Sioux Falls Lutheran School family! She will join our team as an administrative assistant for preschool and elementary during the 2023-24 school year.

Mrs. Martinez and her family are moving to Sioux Falls this summer from Columbus, Nebraska. A mom of three who attended a Lutheran grade school herself and has more than 17 years of experience in an office setting, Mrs. Martinez is sure to be a natural fit in our front office. She looks forward to carrying out her “work loves,” which include organizing anything, thorough records management, starting and seeing projects through to the finish, learning and adapting to new things, and building lasting relationships in the place where her children will attend school. Her two youngest sons, Jude and Sloane, will be entering 4th and 6th grade respectively, and her oldest will be a freshman at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell next fall.

Check out the Q&A below to learn more about Mrs. Martinez, including what she looks forward to about joining the Sioux Falls Lutheran School community.

Tell me a bit about yourself and your family.
I am from Elgin, but I’ve spent most of my life in Columbus, Nebraska. I attended Immanuel Lutheran School, went onto high school and took college courses in Columbus and Hastings. A lot of my childhood time was spent attending dance class, playing with neighborhood kids, going to summer camps, and playing different sports. And as an adult, I spend much of my time watching sports and running kids to all their events!

I really enjoy reading, gardening, traveling, camping, dancing, attending concerts, walking our doggie Pongo and having downtime with my family. My husband Tedd and I have three sons. Our oldest, Connor, will be attending Dakota Wesleyan University this fall. Sloane and Jude will be entering 6th and 4th grade respectively at SFLS this fall. Since we are new to the area, we look forward to exploring all that Sioux Falls has to offer and, of course, becoming a part of the Sioux Falls Lutheran community!

What appeals to you about working in a school setting?
The children, of course! Each child is such a unique being and can bring so much joy to others around them. I look forward to learning from every experience and every child. Plus, we get to worship Jesus together daily! My mother is a retired teacher and still volunteers at the Lutheran grade school my children attended in Nebraska. I have always admired how she exudes her love for God and for each and every one of her students!

What has you most excited about joining the SFLS community?
My whole family is excited to get involved in everything–music, theatre, sports, and making new connections. So far, we love the beautiful building, the wonderful people, and all that SFLS stands for!

Favorite Bible verse:
“Jesus answered him, ‘Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.’” –Luke 23:43
