SFLS Announces United Voters Assembly to Approve Fully-Funded 4,700 Square Foot Fitness Center

During a United Voters Assembly Meeting held by electronic and paper ballot from July 7-19, over 240 voters approved construction of the fully-funded facility with an approval rate of 96 percent. Groundbreaking on the project will take place later this fall.

Over the past several months, donors have witnessed the need for a new Fitness Center to support our newly established high school and growing athletic programs. As a result of that witness, those donors have sacrificially given over $1.3 million in cash and pledges for the construction of such a space. Praise be to God!
At a special meeting on Wednesday, June 28, the SFLS Board moved to hold a United Voters Assembly meeting, by electronic or mailed ballot, to seek approval of bids from Hoogendoorn Construction to build a 4,700 square foot Fitness Center and the shell of an Athletic Training/Storage Facility and restroom, as well as install performance flooring from Push, Pedal, Pull in the fitness center.
The addition of these new spaces at SFLS will bless our school community for years to come in several ways. It will provide our award winning powerlifting team–our largest co-ed athletic program, which currently serves 32 students–with a dedicated training space. It will provide enhanced strength, endurance, and agility training resources for all SFLS athletes. And, it will strengthen the overall physical, mental, and emotional health of the whole SFLS community, including students, staff, parents, and perhaps adjoining residents.

The construction project, including fees and flooring installation, will cost $1,418,745. Thanks to generous donors who have given $1,205,950 in cash and pledged an additional $167,795 toward the project, and $45,000 in anticipated accruing interest on funds already in the bank, the addition is already fully funded. Additional funds of approximately $112,000 still need to be raised to fully furnish the space with fitness equipment. The school’s fundraising team will launch creative fundraising efforts for those materials over the next few months.
Over the next few weeks, SFLS association congregation voters will participate in a United Voters Assembly, by electronic or paper ballot, to approve the Board’s recommendations. Voting will commence on or before Friday, July 7 and close on Wednesday, July 19th. Construction is slated to begin soon after approval.
