Meet Varsity Volleyball Coach Stacey Beckman

Sioux Falls Lutheran School is pleased to welcome Coach Stacey Beckman to the Sioux Falls Lutheran School family! She will join our team as our varsity volleyball coach during the 2023-24 school year.

Originally from Allen, Nebraska, Coach Beckman moved to the Sioux Falls area with her family in 2007. Volleyball has been her favorite sport since childhood. She played in college at Doane University in Crete, Nebraska. Upon graduating, she served as the assistant coach at Doane University for two years. Since relocating to Sioux Falls, she has volunteered with her daughters’ youth volleyball teams, coached at the club level, and spent one year as a junior high coach and two years as a high school coach in the Sioux Falls area.

Check out the Q&A below to learn more about Coach Beckman, including what she looks forward to about joining the Sioux Falls Lutheran School community.

Tell me a bit about yourself and your family.
I was raised in Allen, a small community in northeast Nebraska. My school was about the size of Sioux Falls Lutheran, and my graduating class of 20 was one of the biggest classes. I am the youngest of four kids, and I grew up attending my older siblings' sports, music, and church events. So, when I was old enough to participate, I wanted to do it all.

Volleyball became my favorite sport at a young age, and I spent as much time as I could in the gym. I also really enjoyed music and reading, and I still do. In high school, I was a decorated athlete in volleyball, basketball, and track. I went on to play college volleyball at Doane University, an NAIA school in Crete, Nebraska.

My husband Nate and I are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary this year. We relocated to Sioux Falls in 2007 to start our business, The Superstar Tumblebus. We have five children, Peyton, Trevon, Tatum, Paxton, and Trey. Our family is really into sports, and we spend a lot of time at games or in the gym. We also enjoy our annual trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for family bible camp. We are very active in our church and spend a lot of time with our church family.

Tell me a bit about your coaching style.
As a coach, I really enjoy the teaching side of the game and take great joy in helping athletes master a new skill or make adjustments to improve. I have a competitive, fun-loving personality, and while I enjoy winning, I’m all about winning if it’s done the right way–with good discipline and fundamentals, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and honoring the one who gave us the ability to play–the Lord.

What do you enjoy most about working with high school athletes?
What I enjoy most about working with high school athletes is that I get to help them grow and develop not only as players, but also as young adults. Sports provide a great opportunity to build skills that will last a lifetime.

How do you envision integrating faith into your team's experiences throughout the season?
I am really excited to be able to share my faith as a coach. Who we are in Christ is the most important thing to learn. To be able to coach my favorite sport AND point these young athletes to the Lord by helping them learn to play to honor God is a privilege. I am excited to integrate faith into the volleyball program through team prayer, devotionals, and through acknowledging that we have an opportunity to be lights to our opponents at every game. My goal is that we will conduct ourselves in a way that sets us apart as believers.

Favorite Bible verse:
Currently my favorite Bible verse is Ephesians 3:20-21: “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
