Meet Project Awareness Counselor Tracy Naughton

Sioux Falls Lutheran School is pleased to welcome Mrs. Tracy Naughton to the Sioux Falls Lutheran School family! We’ve contracted with Carroll Institute to have Mrs. Naughton with us one day per week during the 2023-24 school year. She will work alongside Mrs. Barb DeVos to provide a variety of social, emotional, and mental health supports in our kindergarten through 12th grade classrooms.

Mrs. Naughton is a University of Sioux Falls graduate with degrees in psychology and social science. In addition, she is working on passing all of the tests to become a licensed professional counselor. Mrs. Naughton lives in Beresford with her husband, and they welcomed their first child into the world this summer. In her free time, Mrs. Naughton enjoys spending time outdoors or with family and friends.

Check out the Q&A below to learn more about Mrs. Naughton, including what she looks forward to about joining the Sioux Falls Lutheran School community.

Tell me a bit about yourself and your family.
I grew up in Humboldt, SD, and graduated from West Central High School. Growing up, I was very involved in soccer. My family also spent lots of time out on the boat. Now, I still enjoy spending time with my family at the lake, going to concerts, and spending lots of time with family and friends.

How did you decide to pursue a career in counseling?
I have always been a ‘helper’. During my freshman year of college, I became interested in a career in counseling through my psychology course. I then dove deeper into what counseling courses were available at the undergraduate level, and I fell more in love with the field. Now, being in the field, I love when my clients have even the smallest of victories. I might not even have anything to do with those victories, but being alongside them as they go through these things is truly so rewarding.

What has you most excited about joining the SFLS community?
I am so excited to join the SLFS community! One of the things that has me most excited is that I get to have my faith alongside me in this community.

Favorite Bible verse:
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am you God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10
