Sioux Falls Lutheran School is pleased to share that Mrs. Glenda Jones will join our growing early childhood team as a 2-year-old teacher during the 2020-21 school year.

Earlier this summer, SFLS received permission from its licensing entities to expand early childhood care to serve children as young as 18 months in age. Mrs. Larson, who piloted our 2-year-old program during the 2019-20 school year, enthusiastically agreed to serve as the lead teacher in our 1.5-year-old room, which set us on a search for a highly qualified teacher for our 2-year-old room.

Once again, God has provided for our school community in unimaginable ways by blessing our early childhood team with Mrs. Jones, who holds an associate degree in child development and has 25 years of experience as a lead toddler teacher at Bright Horizons Early Learning Center here in Sioux Falls (formerly known as the Citi Family Center). Like the rest of our teachers, Mrs. Jones looks forward to returning to the classroom this fall after a COVID-19 related closure at her former facility became permanent earlier this summer.

Check out the Q&A below to learn more about Mrs. Jones and her passion for teaching 2-year-olds.

After 25 years as a lead toddler teacher, what is your favorite part of working with 2-year-olds?
My favorite part of working with two-year-olds is interacting with the children. Playing games together, engaging them in dramatic play, and participating at group circle times are some of the activities we do daily.

How do you approach hands-on learning with toddlers?
For hands-on learning, I provide a variety of materials that the children can use their senses to explore. It is imperative that children have the opportunity to explore their world inside and outside.

Share a little bit about how you plan to incorporate Jesus into the classroom.
Incorporating Jesus into the classroom will be accomplished by telling Bible stories and praising God with Bible songs. We will teach the children how to give thanks through prayer for God’s many blessings.
