A School of Distinction

Academics at SFLS

You want the best for your child and their future. You have the desire for them to grow in character, wisdom, and purpose, equipped with the skills to serve God and be a support to others. In a changing and complex world, you need a school that aligns with your family values, one that is dedicated to helping you raise your children to be capable, faithful leaders. Like Daniel, Esther and Ruth, you want them to stand strong, even in the face of adversity.

At Sioux Falls Lutheran School, we value children, faith, family, community, excellence, and safety. Our commitment to these values has been recognized by the National Lutheran Schools Accreditation Commission, which named SFLS a School of Distinction in 2017. Of the more than 100 schools accredited by NLSA that year, only five earned this top rating.

Our students benefit from these key academic differentiators:

Exceptional education for every age and stage.

Preschool

A hands-on, play-based approach guides our preschool program, which is led by certified teachers. Number and color recognition, language and motor development, music exploration, and soft skill growth are a few reasons why our early childhood education program has been named one of the Local Best since 2007.

Kindergarten

Our experienced kindergarten teachers understand that each child learns at their own pace, and they are well equipped to support the social, emotional, academic, and spiritual development of each student. Your child will benefit from Bible, language arts, math, social studies, and science instruction, and stay engaged as they move about campus for recess, music lessons, art, gym class, library time, and more. In addition, Suzuki-based violin lessons support learning across all content areas and continue through third grade.

Elementary School

Elementary school students experience a fun and challenging environment focused on learning, experimenting, and developing the confidence to learn from mistakes. Traditional grades are not given in elementary school. Instead, students practice skills throughout the year to work toward subject mastery. Additionally, students take part in PeaceWiseKids, a program which teaches them how to manage challenges and conflicts in safe, healthy, and Christ-like ways.

Middle School

In middle school, your child will master core subjects, choose electives that interest them, and explore professions through career and technical education classes beginning in eighth grade. At this stage, they’ll also strengthen their faith and values through weekly chapel and various service opportunities. Middle school students also participate in exciting athletic and fine arts extracurriculars, including sports, marching band, drama club, musicals, and more, which also continue into high school.

High School

Our high school students benefit from a robust college prep program, discussion-based instruction, leadership opportunities, and strong teacher-student relationships. Our educators teach at a level that prepares students to take and pass AP tests, and online dual credit courses through local universities are available to qualifying juniors and seniors. Additionally, seniors have the opportunity to complete a capstone course, which is designed to help them learn more about a desired career path in preparation for graduation.
