Name: Kelsie Miller

College/University accepted to:
South Dakota State University

Intended field of study:
Early Childhood Education

What makes SDSU a good fit for you?
South Dakota State is a good fit for me because of the exceptional music program and a strong early childhood program. I am also excited to attend a larger college, but it is still close to home, which is something I was looking for.

How did you feel when you received the news of your acceptance?
Well, honestly I received my acceptance letter with some other colleges as well, so it wasn’t until months later that I started to feel excited about attending SDSU.

How did you decide on a school/field of study?
I have always loved taking care of and teaching children. The experience of working at a daycare and Sioux Falls Lutheran School’s Eagle Care only solidified my passion. After shadowing an occupational therapist, I am also interested in pursuing a doctorate degree in occupational therapy after attaining my Bachelors degree in early childhood education.

Which classes, programs, and/or faculty at Sioux Falls Lutheran School helped support your interest in your planned career field?
All of my teachers at Sioux Falls Lutheran have equipped me with wisdom and guidance in high school and with my plans for after school. I have had some teachers and adults that have encouraged me to become an educator, and I would like to thank Mr. Albers for talking with me about my capstone project, which ultimately led to my decision on a college major.

Please share any other activities that had a significant impact on you during your time at SFLS.
I have been blessed to do a lot at Sioux Falls Lutheran, and I am thankful for every coach, director, sport, activity, classmate, and teammate who has supported me. I have been involved in marching band, jazz band, concert band, praise band, choir, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, powerlifting, Drama, NHS and Eagle Care.

What is your favorite Bible verse?
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” —Romans 8:28
