Breems Family

This spotlight features Justin and Abby Breems, as well as their three children. Lillyanna and Carson are entering kindergarten in the fall of 2023 as their little brother, Theodore, joins our infant program.

Why did you choose SFLS for your children?
We were looking for a place with a smaller setting where we knew our kids would be more than just a number. At Sioux Falls Lutheran, we found that as well as a positive environment and the opportunity for our children to grow in their faith.

What do you love most about SFLS?
EVERYTHING!! It has been such a great transition for our twins, who attended 4-year-old preschool this year. From being greeted by members of administration each day to having teachers and educational assistants who have taken our kids into their loving arms and treated them as one of their own, every experience we’ve had has been outstanding.

We had some big family changes during the first few months of the school year, and with the help of Mrs. Fjelstad the kids didn’t miss a beat. She was great to communicate with!

Our kids also love that they get to see and interact with the “big kids” (high schoolers). Building relationships with older students has made them want to go to every after school event possible so they can see the “big kids” participate in sports and other activities. It truly feels like you are stepping into a big family when you come into the school.

What is one word that best describes the school? Why?
Family.
Everyone at SFLS treats each other like family and is willing to help out with anything that needs to be done.

In what ways have you seen your children grow and develop as a result of their experiences at SFLS?
The amount my children have learned this school year has been incredible. They have learned different Bible stories, they love going to chapel, and they’ve gained confidence through experiences like Christmas programs, where I watched them go on stage and sing without hesitation to a big group of people. They can’t get into school fast enough most days, and it is hard to get them to leave as they don’t want to leave their friends and teachers.

How is SFLS preparing your child to be World Ready, Faith Secure?
At a very early age SFLS makes sure that kids are learning about God, getting their roots deep into the Word, and continually growing in faith throughout their education. Having so many different opportunities to learn about God in school prepares them for how to act, treat others, and most importantly stay true to their faith as they enter the world outside of school.

What would you tell other parents to encourage them to enroll their child at SFLS?
Look past the tuition. Bringing your child here has so many benefits that will extend long past their primary years. There are also ways, like the SCRIP program through Raise Right and variable tuition, that the school helps families afford tuition. Enrolling at SFLS has been the best decision we have made for our children!
