Meet Our Infant Teacher Erin King
Sioux Falls Lutheran School is pleased to formally welcome Mrs. Erin King to our teaching team. She served as a long-term substitute in our lead infant teaching position during the 2026-27 school year, and she will step into that role in a full-time capacity this year.
Mrs. King enjoys watching babies develop their own unique personalities and caring for them in ways that foster healthy, whole-child development. As our infant teacher, she has the privilege of onboarding and welcoming families to our school community. She looks forward to helping babies and families make a smooth transition as they enter a classroom setting at SFLS.

Tell me a bit about yourself and your family.
My husband Brady and I have been married since 2018 and live in Sioux Falls. In 2019, we welcomed our daughter, Briar, who is a 1st grader at SFLS. We love to take in all the kid-friendly places Sioux Falls has to offer, like the Great Plains Zoo, the library, and the Washington Pavillion. We also love a variety of activities like playing board games, going to the movies, and playing outside.
Tell me about your previous work and childcare experience.
I was in banking for over 10 years. I went back to college in 2021 and received my Bachelor’s in Arts from Dakota State University. The year prior to Briar starting kindergarten, we realized how time goes by so quickly, so I became a stay at home mom for the year. When it came time to look for a job, Brady (and other friends) encouraged me to find a job that fills my cup. We had been teaching EKids (Sunday School) at our church, and both had loved it. That led to him suggesting I take a look at the openings at SFLS. I applied on a whim, and it so happened they needed a sub for an unexpected amount of time. I jumped at the chance and am so thankful I did! I tell people that everything falling into place was definitely a God moment. I have loved my job, co-workers, and all of the students and their families.
As you filled a long-term sub position at SFLS last school year, what was your favorite part of working with infants?
It was so rewarding to see them grow and reach those big milestones along with the smaller ones–from learning to sit up, crawl, and walk, to learning how to do sign language. It was a privilege and honor to get to know them and their families.
What about working with infants brings you the most joy?
Seeing their personalities develop is so fun. Not much can top a baby laugh or cuddle!
Tell me a bit about your teaching style.
I want parents to be able to drop their kids off and know 100 percent that their baby is in good hands and loved unconditionally. I don’t want their day to be filled with worry or concern. Open communication and updates on how their day went is an example of how we accomplish this.
At this stage, I feel the best thing we can do is have fun! That can be anything from doing silly dances and songs or art projects to blowing bubbles and being silly. I love to introduce things with a variety of textures, toys that illustrate cause and effect, and teach some simple sign language like please and thank you.
In my teaching style, I have also learned to be able to pivot on a moment’s notice. In the infant room, the babies are in charge! So, if an activity won’t work for the scheduled time, we simply pivot and fit it in at a later time or rework the activity.
This year I am looking forward to expanding on everything I learned last year and getting them more involved throughout the school.
What is your favorite Bible verse?
It changes depending on what is going on, but I think this one is always a steady one:
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” –Isiah 41:10
