Senior Spotlight: Kaitlyn Wald
As graduation draws near, we’re sitting down with the class of 2026 to talk about their time at Sioux Falls Lutheran School and what the future holds.

Name: Kaitlyn Wald
College/University accepted to: Dordt University
Intended field of study: Pre-Speech Therapy
What makes Dordt a good fit for you?
I love the cheer coach and team, the distance of Dordt from Sioux Falls, and the Christian community there.
How did you decide on a field of study?
I wanted to work with kids in my future, but also in a hospital setting with one-on-one clients.
Which classes, programs, and/or faculty at SFLS helped support your interest in your planned career field?
The way Heather Miller is with her preschoolers has inspired me to continue working with kids in my future career.
Please share any other activities that had a significant impact on you during your time at SFLS.
Cheer and powerlifting had a huge impact on me during my time at SFLS. Cheer brought me community and taught me to be myself and more confident. Powerlifting has taught me discipline, showed me how my hard work pays off, and encouraged me to believe in myself.
What is your favorite high school memory?
The elevator ride back from getting ice cream on the senior class trip.
I am inspired by or grateful for…
My mom and grandparents.
If you could go back and change one thing during your high school career, what would it be?
Knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t change a thing. Every experience or event, good or bad, serves a valuable purpose that provides growth and knowledge, and I cherish every memory. How would I learn without making countless mistakes?
What are your goals for the future?
To make a difference in people’s lives, even if it’s a small impact.
What advice would you share with underclassmen at SFLS?
Try everything and be involved to make friends and find your passions, even if it’s something you think you may not like!
What is your favorite Bible verse?
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” –Ephesians 4:32
